The competition is open for entries from young people aged under 19, and poems can be any length, about any aspect of wildlife or nature. The deadline for entries is Friday 23 November, 2012 and entrants can email their poems to firstname.lastname@example.org or send them in the post to Wildverse, RSPB Wildlife Explorers, The Lodge, Sandy, Bedfordshire, SG19 2DL.
The head judge of this year’s competition is Julia Donaldson, Children’s Laureate and author of the award-winning book The Gruffalo. Julia’s ten favourite poems will be read out on air on Fun Kids between 21st and 24th December and you will also be able to listen to them via Pure’s online portal – Pure Connect. You can also find the 2011 poetry recordings here as well. The overall winner, as chosen by the judges, will receive a Pure Sensia 200D Connect and the runners up will receive a Pure One Flow so they can listen to their poems being read out on Fun Kids.
Julia Donaldson, head judge of the competition, says; ‘I want children to feel the wind, the rain, the sunshine, listen closely and write about what excites them. I want to hear a story in a poem about something wonderful that they have experienced.’
The RSPB is urging families to connect with nature so that our children can go on to look after it as adults. Find out how connected you are at www.rspb.org.uk/getoutdoors or for more information on Pure visit www.pure.com
